About this exercise

This is a fundamental exercise since it is through the body that we experience the world.  If we want to manage emotions, be effective and remain calm and centered, the body is where we need to start.

It may sound obvious but we don’t always remember that we are in this body for the whole of this life-time. We tend to take the body for granted and only notice it when it is not well.  The more we become aware of how the body the more we will be able to manage our emotions and choose to act rather than react.  This exercise gives you the opportunity to really get to know your body better and appreciate it more.

As well as being an important exercise in its own right, the 5 Systems are used in the Body Scan for the Sophro Dynamic Relaxations and some of the themed exercises.  It is therefore, important to be familiar with them.

To do the exercise we recommend that you:

  1. Read the instructions
  2. Watch the demonstration video
  3. Find a place where you can sit or lie down, relax and close your eyes
  4. Do the exercise by listening to the audio file
  5. Have a notebook and pen to write up your experience

Regular practice: We recommend that you practice each exercise once a day for 5 days before going on to the next one.

IMPORTANT: Make sure you are in a place where it is safe to close your eyes and deeply relax.
